Privacy policy
Last updated 21 September 2026
The short version: ColorAlarm does not collect, store or share any personal data. Everything you create in the app stays on your phone. The camera is used only to read colors, on the device, and no images are ever saved or sent anywhere.
This privacy policy explains how the ColorAlarm mobile application ("ColorAlarm", "the app", "we", "us") handles information. ColorAlarm is developed by Zack van Nieuwenhuizen. By using the app, you agree to the practices described below.
1. Information we collect
None. ColorAlarm has no user accounts, no servers, no analytics and no advertising. We do not collect, receive or have access to any personal information about you.
2. Data stored on your device
To work, the app saves the following locally on your phone, in the app's private storage:
- Your alarms (times, repeat days, labels, sounds and strictness)
- Your settings (volume, vibration, default sound and similar preferences)
- Your history of found colors, used for your collection, streaks and insights
This data never leaves your device and we cannot access it. You can delete it at any time by removing alarms, using Clear found colors in Settings, clearing the app's storage in Android settings, or uninstalling the app.
3. Camera
ColorAlarm asks for camera access because finding a color is the only way to turn off an alarm. While an alarm is ringing and you're hunting, the app reads a small patch in the centre of the live camera image to measure its color. These frames are analysed in memory, on the device, in real time. No photos or videos are recorded, saved or transmitted. The camera is only active while you're on the color-hunt screen.
4. Other permissions
ColorAlarm asks for the following Android permissions only so that alarms ring reliably:
- Notifications: to deliver the alarm.
- Exact alarms: to ring at the exact minute you set.
- Full-screen and lock-screen display: to show the alarm without unlocking your phone.
- Display over other apps: to bring up the alarm while you're using another app.
- Unrestricted battery use and wake lock: to stop the system stopping the alarm.
- Run at startup: to reschedule your alarms after your phone restarts.
- Vibration and foreground service: to play the alarm sound and vibrate.
None of these permissions are used to collect information about you.
5. Third parties
ColorAlarm contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs, and shares no data with third parties. The app is distributed through Google Play. Google may collect information when you download or update apps, as described in Google's privacy policy. We have no control over and receive no personal data from that collection.
6. Children's privacy
ColorAlarm is not directed at children under 13, and because we collect no personal data, we do not knowingly collect data from children of any age.
7. Security
Your data is kept in the app's private storage on your device, protected by Android's app sandbox. Since nothing is transmitted, there is no data in transit or on a server to protect.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR or POPIA may give you rights over your personal data, including access, correction and deletion. Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to provide or delete. All app data is on your device and under your control.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example if the app gains new features. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. If a change means data would leave your device, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
